Leather, leather and more leather made a huge comeback with Bernard Chandran’s Autumn/Winter 2014-15 collection to create edgy modern looks which effortlessly married menswear aesthetics with feminine silhouettes. Oversized floor length leather coats with wool panelling, fuschia cocktail dresses with waitcoat detailing, pencil skirts with peek-a-boo detail achieved through PVC panels, tailored leather tops all had masculine touches without completely losing sight of femininity to create strong feminine silhouettes.
While masculine leather looks dominated Chandran’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, the designer also had room for more feminine pieces in the shape of fitted sequin skirts in liquid bronze paired amazingly well with leather and brocade two-pieces and cocktail dresses in rich jewel hues.
The edgy collection was complemented by barely there makeup and middle parted ponytails.
Boasting a plethora of prestigious clients including the royal families of Malaysia and Brunei and celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Tori Amos and Estelle, Malaysian designer Bernard Chandran is renowned for bringing the lens of a vibrant cultural background to his designs.
“My inspiration comes from my customers…how they move, how they talk, their attitudes, their lifestyles. When I first meet a new customer, I make her understand that I am here to make you look good,” the designer once said of his inspirations. If this collection is anything to go by, Chandran’s customers are fierce, feminine and formidable women women.by
