The red carpet on Thursday’s Essence Black Women in Hollywood Awards luncheon was something to be described as elegant.
A lot of stars aligned on the red carpet at the Beverly Hills Hotel, California for the 2014 Essence 7th Annual Black Women in Hollywood luncheon to celebrate breakthrough star Lupita Nyong’o, the leadership of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, and the vision of director/producer Ava DuVernay.
Most of the stars that attended the event opted for brights, whites, and pastel prints—making it probably the most cheerful red carpet of the year thus far. With everyone counting down to the Oscars with hopes that Lupita Nyong’o will win for her stellar performance in 12 Years A Slave, apart from winning the Breakthrough Hollywood Act award the Kenyan actress also gave us something to applaud her for with her amazing speech on dark beauty and self-acceptance. Present at the event were stars including Oprah Winfrey, Brandy Norwood, Common, David Oyelowo, Kerry Washington, Michael Ealy, Ledisi, Tika Sumpter, Spike Lee, Regina King, Tracee Elis Ross and many more. Check out all the red carpet photos below:
