This week, ‘Super Bass’ by Nicki Minaj, taken from the best selling album Pink Friday, has topped charts as the first song by a female hip hop artist to reach 3 million digital sales.

The hip hop artist is better known for her edgy voice, cool fashion sense and ever changing wigs, but she found herself splashed around the internet recently for another reason.

Miss Minaj featured on the US Ellen DeGeneres show (see the video below) to surprise two young cousins from Essex who have become stars in their own right, as their YouTube video of them singing “Super Bass” had 9 million views in less than a month. The show set up the surprise meeting for the two girls Sophia Grace, 8 and Rosie 5, who got to meet the star, and the lucky Sophia Grace even got to sing with Nicki in a live rendition of “Super Bass”.

Speaking to the girls, Nicki said, “Within five seconds of seeing this video, I was calling everyone I know. Everyone was like, ‘You have to see this little girl’ – she blew me away! Music is beautiful…but I want you to stay in school, put your books first and singing second.” She also promised to take the girls on a shopping spree the next day and buy them anything they wanted including a copy of her Pink Friday album.

Well done girls! I’d say you definitely helped the sale of Super Bass after your wonderful renditions!
