25th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala - Arrivals

Lupita Nyong’o

Bafta has revealed the names of five young actors who will be competing for this year’s Rising Star award, and amongst them is none other than the emerging Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o, who made her Hollywood debut in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave.

Other nominees are American actor Dane DeHaan, who plays a troubled poetic muse in Beat Generation saga Kill Your Darlings, Lea Seydoux who plays one half of a lesbian couple in Blue is the Warmest Colour and British actors George MacKay, who stars in Proclaimers musical Sunshine on Leith, and Will Poulter of comedy We’re the Millers.

 

The nominees were selected by a group of jurors including actress Gemma Arterton, deputy chair of Bafta’s film committee Pippa Harris and film critic Mark Kermode. Previous winners of the prestigious award include Juno Temple, Tom Hardy and Kristen Stewart.

VariousThe event is scheduled for Sunday, 16 February. Nominations for the ceremony’s other awards will be announced on Wednesday.
