Dermot O’Leary hosted the 18th National Television Awards held at the O2 Arena on 22nd January 2014.  The ceremony celebrated the best of UK television.

Keifer Sutherland

Keifer Sutherland, famous for his iconic act as a detective in the hit TV series, 24 presented the Inaugural Best TV Detective to, Benedict Cumberbatch who was absent although he received his award via a video link from Los Angeles Benedict sounding elated he told the audience that he was, ‘over the moon’.

Julie Hesmondhalgh’s win, was an additional highlight of the evening, a few days ago the cancer diseased act, killed herself in the television series, Coronation street indicating her exit from the  television drama.

She leapt with Joy as she was honoured for the Best TV Serial Performance. She dedicated the award to her dad, John(who died last year), her husband Ian Kershaw and her co-star David Neilson who was her soap husband. She added, “We are so proud of this storyline and we’d like to thank all of the charities who have helped and supported us, particularly Pancreatic Cancer UK.”
