As hip-hop and rap heads probably already know, American rappers, Jay-Z and Kanye West released joint album, Watch the Throne, on Itunes on the 8th of this month. The album’s hard copy release is expected out on the 12th of August.


The album was recorded by both rappers’ labels, Roc-A-Fella, Roc Nation and Def Jam Recordings. Recording sessions for the album commenced in November 2010 and took place at different locations. Singles from the ‘Watch the Throne’ album, ‘H.A.M.’ and ‘Otis’ were released January and July this year respectively.


‘Lift off’ which features singer and Jay-Z’s wife, Beyonce, will be released on the 23rd of August. Artists Frank Ocean, Mr Hudson, Kid Cudi, who lent vocals on the track, “Illest Motherfu**er Alive”, a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the album, and Swiss Beatz, who produced “Welcome to the Jungle” are also featured on the album.

Producers who worked on the album include 88-Keys, Kyambo Joshua, Mike Dean, Q-tip, Naija’s own Don Jazzy, amongst others. Jay-Z said (in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine) on him and Kanye recording the album together, and “together” in the true sense of the word, “If we were gonna do it, we were gonna do it together. No mailing it in.”

Jay-Z and Kanye will go on a tour between October and December this year to promote the album.
