Meet Nelson Freitas, a singer, writer and producer who hails from Cape Verde. He’s enjoyed commercial success via his roots and home country as well via the Netherlands and across Europe with 3 albums, a host of singles and several years touring, and now he’s looking to expand – hitting the UK!
Nelson’s journey started with him performing as a break-dancer, then became the front man of the infamous group Quatro. With a passion for Hip-Hop, R&B and House music, Nelson took the challenge to go it alone and concentrate on his solo work by blending all these influences into one. He released “My life” album in 2010, with hits such as Rebound Chick, Saia Branka, Nha Primere Amor – selling over 90.000 copies. His 3rd album “Elevate” was released earlier this year with collaborations with artists and producers of different ethnic backgrounds, with the likes of talent from Angola, Cape Verde, Congo, Holland and Morocco which has helped forge a fresh and new worldly sound.
On his UK takeover – earlier this year Nelson dropped into the 1xtra studios as guest with DJ Edu and was Proud to be the 1st Cape Verdian artist to do an interview at BBC Radio in the U.K. He’ll be back 1Xtra next month so look out for that!
