FAB Music: ‘Ashawo’- Original and remix by Debbie Falana

Some of you might have heard ‘Ashawo remix’ by Flavour and wondered about the original version. The original version was done by late Nigerian singer, trumpeter and bandleader, Rex Jimi Lawson, also known as Cardinal Rex (1935-1971).

I find this version very nostalgic; it takes me years back to the times when my dad would bump some Orlando Owoh, Baba Ara, Dipo Sodipo CDs or some highlife music on our long car rides.

This is the more modern remix by Nigerian highlife singer, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour. I really  like Flavour’s version as well. It’s more upbeat and makes for a good song to shake one’s booty to or ‘spoil body’ to like Nigerians would say.
