The subtle elegance of this collection is what makes for a unique collection. Without a fear of prints and bright colours, the African West collection is modern and yet African.
Herbert Victoria’s (HV) Spring/Summer 2014 collection was inspired by his research of contemporary fashion in West Africa and countries such as Senegal, Ghana, Mali and Guinea. He combined different fabrics like Kente from Ghana, the woven Bazan fabric from Senegal and Mud cloth from Mali to create his fusion collection of elegant shapes.
According to the designer, “What intrigued me were the similarities between “Africans” and Americans in fashion. Americans buy into designer brands to express social status while “Africans” wear more extravagant fabrics to express their social status.”
