The Future Awards, a social enterprise set-up inspired by a strong, realist approach to encouraging human and capital development especially in Nigeria is extending its National Tour outside of Lagos State.
The project which is also committed to finding effective and innovative ways of addressing social issues, held its seminars – annual post-awards school programmes – this time, being its 3rd year, in Ogun State, the Central Working Committee revealed.
Winners of the The Future Awards; Denrele Edun, Kemi Lala and Otto Orondaam had accompanied the project team to schools in Ogun State. The first school visited on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 was Mayflower School, Ikenne where interactive sessions were held and topic that bothered on career interest and conflict, passion, project funding and many others were touched as ideas were also exchanged.
At the end of the talk and activities, students and facilitators exchanged contacts for future purposes.
Other schools that the organizers of the initiative intend to visit outside Lagos are Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta; Access High School amongst others in Ogun state. Also on their minds include schools in Abuja, Minna, Port Harcourt, to mention but a few.
The Future Awards, (now in its seventh year) which has in six years produced 126 winners and over 1,000 nominees with impacts on other African countries like South Africa, Euthopia and Ghana, has been described by the World Bank as “The Nobel Prize for Young Africans”.
The organization’s mission which is to inspire leadership and build enterprise, is fast becoming a reality. The project has been front lining and inspiring a new generation of leaders and entrepreneurs for Nigeria, partnering with the Africa Union, US Government, British Council, Ministry of Youth Development, Nigerian Presidency and other influential arms.
“The Future Awards is a national campaign focused on leadership and enterprise, and the awards are only the cherry on top”, offered Chude Jideonwo, its Executive Director.”As always we are excited to go around the country and have our winners hold life-changing interactive and practical sessions with younger people. We want to build, and we are happy to lead the change”.
Post-event seminars will always be known for its outstanding achievements in the city of Lagos and we are proud of the results made so far in Lagos. As a result of this, we decided to storm other states with more life changing seminars”, concluded Jideonwo.
