It seems this just isn’t Beyonce’s best week. First, fake baby bump rumours attack her superstar thrown, and now Queen Bey is accused of theft – and we’re not talking about her ‘stealing the show’, but stealing a shot, or several for her latest video for “Countdown”.
Belgian Choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, well known and said to be one of the biggest choreographers in the world of modern dance, believes that mum-to-‘Bey’ has stolen moves from her choreography for Rosas danst Rosas and also Achterland.
De Keersmaeker said, ” I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism. This is stealing. What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work. Am I honored? Look, I’ve seen local school kids doing this. That’s a lot more beautiful.”
Film maker Thierry De Mey, who shot and art directed Rosas danst Rosas told the press “If tomorrow I were to look for the music, the videos by Beyonce or any other pop or rock stars and use them in my movies without asking for their authorisation, I think Exocet missiles would fall over the Charleroi dance festival and myself.”
Scenes, shots and even costumes appear to be replicated in Beyonce’s “Countdown”, and De Keersmaker beleives “Obviously, Beyonce, or the music video director Adria Petty, plundered many bits of the integral scenes in the film.”
So far, camp Bey has defended claims by releasing a statement to say that she had also referenced Audrey Hepburn’s film Funny Face and iconic looks of Diana Ross, Andy Warhol and Brigitte Bardot.
The Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker dance company is considering taking legal action against Beyonce.
