On Monday the BET Network aired the BET Honours show for 2014 taped on the 8th of February in Washington DC. The event was hosted by Wayne Brady and lots of celebrities from the black Hollywood scene were in attendance.
The seventh annual event was being held to salute Aretha Franklin,Berry Gordy, Ice Cube, the late Nelson Mandela and others for their achievements in their respective fields.
Soul music queen, Jennifer Hudson performed a tribute song to the Late Nelson Mandela right after Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter, Victoria Franklin sang Tamela Mann’s “Take Me To The King” in honour of her grandmother. Other performers were Tamar Braxton in a gorgeous purple dress performing Diana Ross’ “Upside Down and Janelle delivering a very energetic performance for The Jacksons 5’s “I Want You Back”.
Mariah Carey’s debut of her new single, ”You’re Mine” (Eternal) stole the show as she performed the Valentine themed song, kneeling on the baby grand piano dressed in a sizzling black cleavage-bearing gown.
To some of the viewers, Mariah sounded like she was lip-synching to a previously recorded track which triggered a lot of debate on twitter.
