New York based African label Modahnik brought the colours and stripes of staple candy of British summers, the Brighton rock, to the runways of New York with their Spring/Summer 2014 collection at Harlem Row on Day 2 of New York Fashion Week.

Founded in 2009 by Congolese designer Kahindo Mateene, Modahnik is known for the mix of vibrant colors with bold prints and in line with the label’s signature, the collection fused African accents in the shape of bold and vibrant prints in red, orange, yellow and green juxtaposed with an otherwise pristine white palette in a range of two pieces and summer dresses.

Having lived and traveled in Africa, Europe and America, Kahindo expertly combines these different stylistic elements, bringing a unique point of view to her design aesthetic, and this collection which seems to capture the essence of summer with bright whites and bold print and colour is no different.
