For days now, London-based designer Tina Lobondi has been teasing us with fleeting glimpses of her brand new S/S 2013 Limited Edition collection “Uptown Africa”.
“I wanted to create a look for the new generation of girls and women who wants to embrace the African prints. It is chic and feminine, with girly cuts. I observed what the girls wore in the Chelsea area of London and I thought they were missing some colours…
I really wanted this collection to follow on from the last one and to create a brand identity,” says the Congolese designer Tina of this collection.
For a designer who is well-versed in bespoke as well as ready to wear, it is no surprise that this limited edition collection combines wearability with sophistication building further on the label’s strength – a seamless blend of subtle uses of African print with Western fabrics and contemporary styles resulting in edgy feminine silhouettes. Shades of navy blue, sunny yellow and deep purple, sheer tops, print trousers, leather mix blazers with print detail, flirty sheer maxis complement each other in one sleek capsule collection that is both uptown and African.
