When you take a minute to think about it, you realize that one of the things we really did love about the 90s was the fashion and all the fun memories from television, music, and movies. The 90s brought about some of the most iconic movies and music that people still love to watch or listen to today, so why can’t we take a step back into the 90s for revamped fashion?Well today we are taking a page from the movie Clueless, remember it?
It’s a definitely a classic film that’s up there with the best movies of the 90s decade. ‘Clueless’ stars Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and the late Brittany Murphy. The movie is all about Cher, played by Alicia Silverstone, a superficial rich girl who’s all about helping her friends with their love lives and fashion choices, all while looking for a boyfriend. Clueless gave us the first hints of fashionable skirt suits and pants suits. The fashion from ‘Clueless’ is colorful, over the top, and preppy, after all they are schoolgirls! One of the most iconic looks from the film that can easily be brought in to today is Cher’s yellow plaid skirt suit.
The heavy plaid outfit is definitely a 90s staple that was transformed time and time again. Miu Miu went in hard on the plaid trend for their 2010 Pre-Fall collection and we loved it on the runway then too.
In a more recent way, Mai Atafo has shown how to revamp the trend through his collection showcased at the GTBank’s Lagos Design & Fashion Week. While plaid works for skirt suits and pant suits, Mai Atafo showed that floral prints are definitely a revamped and modern day way to wear the plaid skirt suit with Mai opting for floral print and shorts.
What do you think? Doesn’t the Mai Atafo collection make it a more modern and wearable piece? Here’s our style suggestion on how to pull off this look!
