Early Monday morning we brought you the hottest red carpet looks from the Grammy Awards and one of our FAB favourites was Estelle’s floor-length print dress. And today we got to find out more about the making of this gorgeous gown a little bit more on the designer’s website.
The LA-based designer sheds a light on how she came up with the final look and up-cycled Estelle’s grandmother’s vintage dress into a sleek Grammy gown.
“About 10 days before the Grammy’s my good friend and celebrity stylist/ interior designer, Genelle Brooks texted me. Wanting to know if I was available to meet with her and Grammy Award winning singer Estelle. She had a dress of her grandmother’s that she wanted re-designed to possibly wear to one of the weekends many events” writes the designer.
“I love taking vintage, especially sentimental pieces giving them a new life. She knew she wanted to add in a contrasting fabric and use cobalt blue to ease the vibrant print. I hope we made granny proud!!!” she adds before giving us a glimpse of the work that went into achieving the final design.
Hello Fab Mag, thank you so much for covering this story. The dress worn to the Grammy is not a vintage remak from her grandmother’s dress. I made two separate dresses for her.
Thanks. Coco @ilovecollins
