Specialising in bespoke womenswear, Ugandan label Solome Katongole produces garments for the fashion forward woman with an exclusive taste and not afraid to experiment with unique fabrics and style. She explores and mimics art with fabrics to create garments that are sexy, sophisticated, and make a statement.

Born in Uganda and raised in Columbia, MD, the designer of the same name had always been aware of fashion from a young age. Despite a bachelors of science in Biology, she honed her skills by designing for and participating in fashion shows and an internship in early 2008 with London-based Nigerian couturier Yemi Osunkoya the great designer behind the Kosibah label.

Following her internship, Katongole moved to LA to pursue her dream of becoming a professional designer. She majored in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

Katongole is inspired by colour and nature as well as her Ugandan culture. She explores art with fabrics to create garments that are comfortable and make a statement. Solome is for every woman; shy, confident, loves color, fashion forward, or with a youthful spirit.

Her work has graced the runways at Africa Fashion Week New York 2010, Boston Fashion Week 2010 “Fashion Expose”, Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo fashion week 2011 and at Hub of Africa Fashion Week 2012.
Tell us a little about you, your brand and its history?
Solome Katongole is a designer on the rise hoping for the world to understand her vision, and welcome her brand.
Solome Katongole label specializes in customised and ready to wear women’s clothing. The mission is to create and make high quality garments using unique and exquisite fabrics globally.
Tell us about your inspirations behind the Autumn 2012 collection?
The first thing I did was to find the fabrics I wanted to work with, I like to put unusual combinations of fabrics together.  Secondly I decided on which style I wanted to do, I love the 50’s fashion so I drew inspiration from that as well. Basically this collection was more experimental because I didn’t have one particular thing that inspired me. The name of this collection is ‘Stripe Me Again’.
Describe the Solome Katongole woman?
A fashion forward woman with an exclusive taste and not afraid to experiment with unique fabrics and style. A woman who loves and wears garments that are chic, sophisticated, and make a statement.
Who would you like to see wearing your label?
I am happy and proud to see anyone in my label. As far as celebrities I would like Zoe Zaldana and Keri Washington.
