The award season continues and while everyone is still anticipating and getting ready for the Oscars in March, we have had loads of other awards that cannot be ignored, like the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.
Baftas 2014 held at the London’s Royal Opera House with the likes of George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor Amy Adams, Martin Scorsese, Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, Emma Thompson, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie dazzling us in beautiful outfits for the night.
The FAB fashion team has kept an eye out and we have brought you our picks of who we think was FAB – and a few who were drab in their outfit choices of the night
Uma Thurman was stunning in Atelier Versace and definitely gets a FAB vote from us. Her simple navy-blue Atelier Versace silk cady gown had a slit in the back. Proving that a simple look can make the biggest impact
Oprah was nominated for her supporting actress role in ‘Lee Daniel’s The Butler.’ She wore a custom-made Stella McCartney long-sleeve gown with an elegant lace bodice and satin bow sash. She complemented the beautiful burgundy-wine colour and flattering silhouette with a gemstone cocktail ring and delicate earrings, topping off the look with a pink lip and a ‘fro of curls. FAB!
Naomie Harris stunned on the red carpet at the 2014 BAFTAs. She looked FAB and ever so pretty in pink wearing a Gucci gown rendered in a delicious shade of deep watermelon.
Lupita Nyong’o was our lady of the night. The ’12 Years a Slave’ actress yet again flexed her fashion muscle in a dazzling, emerald-green gown from the Christian Dior Fall 2013 Couture collection, worn with custom Christian Louboutin heels.
Lily Allen’s look for the night didn’t cut it for us. Whether it is too many colours in her Vivienne Westwood dress, or the thing she’s got going on behind her hair – either way the look is quite drab.
Lea Seydoux looked good on the red carpet in a Miu Miu outfit – but something seems off in her look so we are giving her a So-So vote. Better luck next time.
Josephine de la Baume was wearing Marios Schwab for the 2014 BAFTAS – we say FAB.
Gwendoline Christie shows that one can be glamorous and on the red carpet even in a short dress. We love!
Rebecca Wang is a delightful sight on the red carpet…
Emma Thompson and her mischievous smile would have been better on the red carpet without that huge coat but the red number underneath gets our seal of approval.
Amy Adams in Victoria Beckham – seems like quite the perfect match and her outfit agrees with us.
It’s always nice to see a well-put-together-man on the red carpet, Go Ray!
This outfit gets a so-so vote from us because while we love the embroidery detailing, that just seems like a whole lot of back on display.
In a sleek, jet-black Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2014 short-sleeve column gown, emblazoned with an exploded, silver floral print at the sides Cate Blanchett injects a touch of quirk into the look with a silver Chopard statement necklace, featuring a cluster of branches and birds.
Actress Gillian Anderson selected a vintage 1949 Balmain haute couture gown from WilliamVintage. Colour-blocked in shades of blue, the strapless dress featured a tiered bodice, which tied in the back with scarf-like panels that floated to the bottom of the navy ball skirt.
Tom Hanks and his wife looked good together – The actress wore a Jenny Packham champagne tulle gown with iridescent deco inspired beading which was simply stunning.
This British TV and radio presenter, who is leading the award show’s E! Live From the Red Carpet coverage with Dermot O’Leary, took on the night in a memorable 1980 Scaasi gown long-sleeve gown from WilliamVintage that sparkled with a true aura of old Hollywood glamour.
Not really loving the look from Steve McQueen’s date but he gets our vote of masculine FABness.
Sally Hawkin’s fil coupe Jacquard three-quarter sleeved gown was emphasized with a full skirt gathered at the waist and a dipped hem, and styled with Mulberry leather pumps in a complementary blue hue. We love carefree hair which works perfectly for her chic look.
Samantha Barks joined the list of stars at the 2014 BAFTAs on Sunday. The British actress wore a Calvin Klein Collection vanilla strapless gown which was heavenly against her olive skin.
Eddie Redmayne & Hannah Bagshawe were both dressed in Gucci and they both looked FAB. We could have gone with a fancier belt on Hannah though.
Our best look for the night! The British actress left the gowns for the rest of the girls, instead suiting up in metallic, menswear-inspired garb from Antonio Berardi’s Pre-Fall 2014 collection. The glam-rock edge was wholly present and accounted for, but she took it even further with her wavy and wild, sideswept ’do.
Leo was dapper and we fell in love with him more because of his outfit
This actress and Bond girl took a slinky spin down the red carpet in a Burberry gown that brought the sultriness in spades with its black V-neck, plunge bodice and bandeau top. The bow detail at the waist added a touch of sweetness, while the shimmering scales of the bronze-and-copper red skirt looked every bit inspired by a mermaid.
It’s understandable that men don’t usually have a lot of room to experiment on the red carpet but a pop of colour would have been nice here.
Edith Bowman looked quite cute with the bangs and slightly tousled hair.
Mr & Mrs Smith! Matching tuxedos were their look for the night and we love it completely. Angelina Jolie stayed true to her more understated style of late in a tailor-made, menswear-inspired ensemble from Saint Laurent. Oozing casually undone sophistication, the tuxedo-inspired black blazer and belted pants were given a carefree edge with the partially unbuttoned white blouse with black bow tie detail. She accessorizes effortlessly with black Saint Laurent pumps, sweeping her long brunette waves to one side and swiping on a black cat eye and nude lip.
There seems to be too much going on with Lara Pulver’s dress or is that just us?
Helen Mirren is keeping it stylish for her age and we love her for that. We love her for this divine dress too. She looked flawless wearing a navy cascading tulle Jacques Azagury gown with a heavily embellished bodice and sleeves.
Bradley Cooper in one word? Yum! Bradley wore an Alexander McQueen navy tuxedo with black lapels and a black bow-tie.
Maggie wore a custom-made Lanvin deep-violet, frosted lace gown with grosgrain-embroidered detailing. Seems too much for us – it’s almost as if a jewelry box exploded on the bodice.
Chiwetel Ejiofor held the best accessory for the night – his model girlfriend. A gorgeous couple.
