Another year, another awards show – the Oscar season is well underway and as we wait with baited breath to see what sartorial choices the stars will make on the biggest night of Hollywood, let us entertain ourselves with some of the FAB, drab and in-between looks from the Golden Globes 2013 red carpet last night.
THE FAB
Helen Mirren
The golden girl – aged 67 – shows us how it is done and scores some major red carpet points with this floor length black gown with gold detail on the shoulders and the waist – and what a waist that is!
Adele
Another Brit babe who rocked the LA red carpet was Adele. The singer who also earned a gong for her massive James Bond hit Skyfall looks effortlessly chic and classy.
Jennifer Lopez
We can’t help but rejoice at the sight of this age-appropriate number from J.Lo. Side swept hair is to die for too!
Jessica Alba
Jessica Alba is another Latina who worked the red carpet in this peach Oscar de la Renta gown. This colour totally suits her complexion and the figure hugging gown shows off her figure nicely.
Naomi Watts
Naomi shows us you can look red hot sexy without showing any skin covering up in this long-sleeve, floor sweeping burgundy Zac Posen gown. The hair is to die for too!
Helena Bonham Carter
The resident eccentric of awards red carpets the world over, Helena Bonham-Carter works her black lace get up and we lust for that Lulu Guness red lips clutch!
Sofia Vergara
Trust the Modern Family star to bring sparkle and sex appeal to any red carpet, and she does just that here with this simple sequin number. We just mourn her weight loss though. Bring back the killer curves!
Salma Hayek
Another sequined siren is Salma on the red carpet, and her luscious raven locks are to die for too.
Ariel Winter
This cute floral number is a lesson in age-appropriate dressing from Modern Family’s Ariel Winter. Take note, Hollywood starlets.
Zooey Deschanel
The New Girl star looks red hot and princess-pretty in this red hot Oscar de la Renta floor sweeper. Not one of her usual low-key choices but it totally works!
Michelle Dockery
Simple yet sophisticated and understated glam. We like!
Megan Fox
In a sea of nudes last night, Megan Fox definitely stood out – while this floor-length gown seems simple, it works with Megan’s shape perfectly and the colour works with her pale complexion too.
Jodie Foster
Some may think this too simple but we know Jodie Foster is known more for her daring acting than her daring red carpet choices and there is something that has to be said about knowing what works for you. Not only does this work for Jodie but the deep blue also highlights her piercing peepers.
Sally Field
Classy and gorgeous, Sally Field teases us with a hint of cleavage and keeps the rest nicely covered up, showing young Hollywood how to do sexy in style.
Tina Fey
We totally love this vintage-feel dress on Tina. And the clutch and the heels. Wish the make up was a bit stronger but hey, it doesn’t hurt!
The Fine
Lea Michelle
Glee star Lea looks fab in this beaded lace gown with a classy side split. However, her hair lets her down, looking more beach bae than red carpet.
Kate Hudson
Gosh we do love Kate Hudson, we really do. And we love this low-key black and gold number, but the hair lets the whole look down, covering up the neck and shoulder detail and taking away the whole va va voom of the dress.
Taylor Swift
As much as we love this shade of plum and as nice as we want to be to Taylor post-Harry, we can’t help but think this is not the most age-appropriate choice for Taylor. Lighten up, love, and opt for something girlier at the Oscars.
Kelly Osborne
We really really really love Kelly’s red carpet choices but we can’t help but think she is becoming a little too predictable with the fishtail gown look. Time to jazz it up like only an Osborne can, Kelly!
Edgy? Yes. Does it work? Not too sure. This Alexander McQueen dress is absolutely to die for, but we feel Nicole had better stick to her classic safe styles.
Kerry Washington
Ain’t nothing wrong with the D’jango Unchained star’s Miu Miu dress in sheer, but perhaps it is the poker straight hair with the poker straight dress that just makes her look a bit flat. This whole look needs some sparkle to take it from fine to FAB.
Amanda Seyfried
The beautiful blush colour – one of the hottest colours of the night – may work with her complexion, but this Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci seems to be wearing the diminutive rather than the other way around.
Halle Berry
We really do not mind this Versace number on Halle who seems overly keen lately to show us her pins. We would much more prefer a more fitted look on her tiny frame though. And before someone starts an account on Twitter for your right leg, please put it away, Halle. It is so 2012!
Jennifer Lawrence
It may be Dior, and it may be haut couture, and yup, it may be one of the hottest red carpet colours of the night but we can’t really in our minds marry the tiny waistline with the bulge that follows underneath.
Jennifer Garner
This colour and cut perfectly suits Jennifer’s frame but the elastic waistband really does take away from the glamour. Put a belt on it, Jen!
Thandie Newton
Gorgeous hair, gorgeous make up and gorgeous Giles number. But next time perhaps leave short hemlines for girls’ nights out, Thandie, and opt for something that says more Hollywood glam?
Heidi Klum
Trying to show Seal what he is missing? Perhaps a little too hard? Somehow this does not work for us.
Emily Blunt
Do excuse us, but we really don’t get the fuss over this cut-out gold Michael Kors gown. Surely there is an air of late ’90s ghetto fabulous about displaying one’s abs on the red carpet? And the hair lacks the glam factor. Not drab, but not FAB either!
The Drab
Jessica Chastain
Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica gets zero marks for this ill-fitting number in a colour that is neither here nor there. Nice hair and make up though, which makes the choice of dress even more of a shame.
Isla Fischer
While this Reem Acra is pretty and sparkly, it would look much better on someone a little older than Isla. And her lair? A little bit meh to pull off the whole look!
Marion Cotillard
Once again it may be Dior, and it may be haut couture, and yup, it may be one of the hottest red carpet colours of the night but we can’t help but think Marion Cotillard is dressed for a cocktail party rather than one of the most prestigious nights out in Hollywood.
Amy Poehler
Really? A tad too casual for the co-host of one of the most prestigious awards in Hollywood.
Sienna Miller
Fair enough it is an Erdem and by association it is fashion-forward but that doesn’t mean it does Sienna’s figure any favours!
Rosario Dawson
Lovely cool mint shade but the fit is not flattering on Rosario’s midriff.
Eva Longaria
Sorry, Eva but short legs and long splits don’t such a breath-taking combination make. Plus, it really is one step (pun intended) from a waldrobe malfunction if you’re having to cover up your panties with your hands.
