Jason Wu’s ‘ Regal’ Pre-Fall 2012 collection is inspired by Indian maharajas and the colorful illustrations of Charley Harper. “Combining the two meant a strict silhouette with stately embellishments,” Wu explained. Both evening dresses and daywear came hand-embroidered, and Wu doubled the size of his year-old accessories collection, introducing the Daphne leather frame bag, named after Daphne Groeneveld.

Instead of taking cues from the bejweled excess we think of when we imagine the maharaj, Wu allows the saturated jewel tones and intracate emboridery to craft the narrative for this collection. Clean cuts act as the foundation for deep cobalt blues, burgundies, burnt oranges, and shots of deep emerald green.

Wu introduced a new doctor bag this season, a welcome addition to his year-old accessories collection. Elbow-length leather gloves add a retro ladylike touch.

This collection is absolutely stunning. I love the rich colors, and those wrap-around strap pumps might have to be my fall splurge item! What do you think?
