With a growing roster of designers, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles will transform the Papillion Institute of Art into a platform of global change; stimulating a greater appreciation for African fashion.
Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is steadily picking up speed as the production team prepares for its inaugural production scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 – Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Papillion Institute of Art (1835 South Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015).
Situated in Downtown Los Angeles, P.I.A. has established itself as a “home for performance and digital media art.” where guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy artwork by Michelle Robinson, whose “IDENTIFLY” exhibit will be on display for the duration of AFWLA.
With local, national and international interest from various media, beauty and fashion companies, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to announce The Standard Hotel as its official hospitality sponsor. The Standard, Hotel, which is where the team hosted its well-received “Africa is Rising” event, will accommodate participating designers and invited guests over the duration of AFWLA.
AFWLA’s inaugural production will feature select popular and emerging African designers and design houses that are based on the continent, including: Autumn Adeigbo; Rue 114 by Serwah Asante; Bishme Cromartie; Efani by Nana Osei; David Giampiccolo; 31 Bits; Fulani Fashions by Omatu Gottschlich; Taiwo Okunuga; Joseph Dasilva and several others. In showcasing these talented designers, AFWLA will connect with local and national buyers as a means to open the door to more opportunities for the designers that are featured. With Africa’s fashion and textile industries gaining momentum, these relationships are vital to continued progress—here in the US and globally.
Tickets are available for purchase via Eventbrite, where patrons can purchase a General Admission or VIP ticket for each day of presentations, or for all three days (bundled options). A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go towards AFWLA’s non-profit beneficiary, MacDella Cooper Foundation.
