FAB Events: Nigerian Celebs come out and play ball at the 2012 Faceoff Celebrity Basketball Tournament

The Celebrity Faceoff basketball tournament was a pure delight, Harbour point, Victoria Island was packed to the rafters with fans and celebrities like Tuface Idibia, Don Jazzy, Muna, Ikechukwu, Olisa Adubua, Sauce Kid, DJ Jimmy Jatt, May D, Dr Sid, Mai Atafo, Dare Art Alade, Lynxx, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Olu Maintain, Micheal Word, Sound Sultan… the list is endless. The event started with music performances from two new acts and then the female celebrities and DJs had the first round of basketball.
The evening soon got more exciting as more celebrities showed their skills on the basketball court. The professional basketball players were given a brief moment to show the crowd their amazing prowess in the sport and then they gracefully tackled the celebrities in one last round.

It was a game of pure sportsmanship as everyone was out to have a good time and not worry about who won or lost. The event was punctuated with several more performances to thrill the crowd; the dance routine by both Kaffy’s dance crew and the DNMT crew especially raised a standing ovation from the crowd. The hosts, Larry D and comedian Tee A tickled the audience with their witty repartee and playful banter as they dished out prices from their network sponsor, MTN.

MTN recharge cards were also given out to members of the audience who were fast enough to type quickly as Tee A rattled off the numbers in quick succession. I had the opportunity to catch up with a few celebrities who expressed their excitement to be a part of the tournament. The game ended with a final faceoff between the professional players and selected celebrities where Beat FM’s ‘ DJ Jimmie’ and Dr Sid of Mo’Hits displayed their basketball prowess to the delight of the onlookers.

The event kicked off at 7:45pm after the red carpet session. Everyone was seated and the first game was between the DJ’s and The Ladies. The beauty of the ladies was all over the basket ball court and it didn’t stop the male team from winning the game. The second players were Team Donjazzy vs Storm all star . Storm all stars won the game courtesy of Deejay Neptune’s 3 point throw.

The third game was between Dodan warriors and Team celebrities. The game started off well but players were losing their points after the first round as the game got tougher and players in each team struggled to keep their game on. At the end of the game, Dodan warriors had 12 points and team celebrities finished with 7 points. It sure was an interesting game.
