Big-wigs of the black Hollywood stars were in attendance for the 45th annual NAACP Image Awards at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to celebrate their achievement on television.
Lupita Nyon’go continued her winning streak at the ceremony as she emerged the winner of the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her remarkable performance in ’12 Years a Slave’ . The Kenyan star thanked co-star, Chiwetel Ejiofor for “Keeping her grounded” in her beautiful acceptance speech. The epic film won a total of four awards including Outstanding Motion Picture while Steve McQueen was awarded for his directing.
Scandal won Outstanding Drama Series for the second time in a row while its leading actress, Kerry Washington picked up the Outstanding Lead Actress honour. The new mother-to-be glowed in a blue and pink satin gown as she said to Shonda Rhimes in her speech, “When you honor a show with a lead actor of color, you open the door for the next.” Joe Morton ( Kerry Washington’s on screen father) also made a win for Scandal with the Outstanding Supporting Actor award.
For the musical awards category, Beyonce beats other top vocalists Janelle Monae, India Arie, Mary Blige as the Outstanding Female Artist for her self-titled album, Beyonce released in December 2013. Other big winners were John Legend for the General Male Artist award. Robin Thicke, T.I., and Pharrell for their 2013 hit “Blurred Lines” The trio earned the honors ahead of other nominees Jay Z and Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys and Maxwell.
Kevin Hart was voted Entertainer of the Year besides the Outstanding Actor In A Comedy Series award for his BET sitcom, Real Husbands of Hollywood. Kevin appears to be receiving all the rave this year.
