Tonight on Channel 4, famed fashion photographer Mario Testino will present the 2011 Turner Prize award, live from the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, in Gateshead.
As part of a special 30 minute show, Testino, revered around the world for his photographic talent and acheivements, will announce the winner of the four nominated artists – installation sculptors Martin Boyce and Karla Black, video artist Hilary Lloyd and painter George Shaw. On his excitement at being involved in the show, Testino said ”I draw endless inspiration from the work of other artists so I am honoured to be presenting this year’s Turner Prize.” As tonight’s show will also be the first edition of the prize to be held outside of a Tate venue, the photographer added ‘’this is one of the most prestigious prizes in the art world, I am pleased that it is not limited to just London.’’
