Vanity Fair, it seems, has taken past criticism to heart over its misrepresentation of black celebrities on its covers and embraced diversity on the cover of its glamorous 20th Annual Hollywood Issue which sees Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor hold centre stage alongside Hollywood heavyweights Julia Roberts and George Clooney.
This is in fact groundbreaking as past fold-out covers of the magazine’s Hollywood issues have featured black talents few and far between and often on the inside of the foldout covers.
The three-panel foldout boasts Oscar nominees Julia Roberts (August: Osage County), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Lupita Nyong’o and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), as well as George Clooney (Gravity), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station), Brie Larson (Short Term 12), Chadwick Boseman (42), Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color), and Idris Elba and Naomi Harris (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).
The 20th annual Vanity Fair “Hollywood Issue” hits stands February 11th and this is one collector’s edition worth collecting.
What do you think is Vanity Fair’s most diverse edition to date a fad or does it mark a sea change in diversity in the mainstream media?by
