‘The Dream Edition‘ of the Model of Africa 2012 event saw Austin Igwilo clinch the title for winner of the prestigious male model search. The event which was held at Eko Hotel & Suites on Sunday, October 21st, 2012 hosted leading Africa’s fashion entrepreneurs grace it.
The 26 year old winner also happens to be a prince from the royal family of Osina (Ideator North Local Government Area) in Imo State. As an Education /Accounting graduate of the Imo State University, in Nigeria he looks forward to representing the country in Thailand for one of the most prestigious male pageants in the world where he will be competing with 45 other countries for the title of Mister International.
With Austin Igwilo bagging the title of ‘Model of Africa 2012’, there were runner-ups and other titles. Thompson Korakpe emerged as 1st Runner up and Izuchukwu Anoliefo as 2nd Runner up. Other categories included Mr. Runway Africa 2012: Okechukwu Ojukwu, Mr. Style Africa 2012 Raymond Okonji, Mr. Fitness Africa Hillary Uduh and Mr. Photogenic Africa Valentine Okuzulu (a title which was assumed from Ghana’s Renaissance Rivers). Olumide Oworu (19) who happened to be the youngest contestant won the Mr. Popularity Africa title which was based on an online voting process. And on the other hand, South Africa’s Mthokozisi Sikhosana got the cheer of the crowd for winning the Mr. Amity Africa 2012.
Amongst the high points of the events was when legendary model, Dayo Babatunde took to the runway to the delightful surprise of the audience.
Sheria Ngowi Tanzania’s leading menswear designer thrilled everyone with his newest collection, ‘The Return of The Gentleman’ also used for the evening wear segment of the competition. Other equally amazing designs were displayed by Maxivive (Model of Africa Most Creative Designer 2012), Femy Toys, 1989 By Eragbae, Revamped (UK), B-eazy, MoS and award-winning accessory designer, Kamsi Tcharles.
A dazzling personalized wristwatch and crystal clear award plaques were presented to the winners by Mrs. Uju Abdulkadir on behalf of Grant of London which happened to be one of the sponsors of the event. Contestants also received gifts from all participating designers and other supporting companies. Other sponsors who contributed to the fruition of this big dream include Stesi Events, Magnificient Prints, FAB Magazine, Bella Naija, Ono Bello.Com, Mai Atafo Inspired, Hakeem Salaam, Etcetera and 53 Extra.
