The event had over 250,000 people in attendance. Celebrities all over the world and citizens across continents thronged at Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. for the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day organised by the Global Poverty Project and the Earth Day Network. Issues of climate change and global poverty were highlighted as the free concert is a medium for engaging global citizens, corporations and world leaders to be proactive in addressing these matters.

Usher, Gwen Stefani, Common, Mary J. Blige, Will.i.am were among the various entertainers who lent their voice to the cause via their music.

African super stars D’banj and Fally Ipupa also took the stage. For his performance D’banj was joined by the CEO Dancers and hypeman,Jimmie.

Other personalities spotted at the event include Kenya Moore, , Chris Martin, Freida Pinto, Isha Sesay Minister of Gender for Liberia Julia Duncan-Cassell, First Lady of Malawi Gertrude Mutharika, Kweku Mandela and others mainly addressing the crowd on the podium.
