The raging wildfire  which began on Sunday  was  fueled by strong winds leading to a rapid , forceful  spread across the  mountains .

South African fire fighters battled the conflagration in their hundreds as it  swept across  the peaks leveling thousands of hectares of vegetation   to ash and countless buildings eviscerated.

Over  50 residents of a retirement home located within blaze area have been hospitalized for trauma and smoke inhalation reports say.

Locales en-masse have been forced to evacuate   the Cape Peninsula region  as  massive fire fighting  continues.
