Arthur 2011 Review – by Nwadiogo Quartey-Ngwube

Yesterday I had the hard task of going to the movies with my friend Bianca to see Arthur (someone has got to do it). We wanted to make sure it was worth the 110 minutes it ran for.

The movie is based on the 1981 original, Arthur. The 2011 version stars Russel Brand, Helen Mirren, and Jennifer Garner. It is a comedy about a rich “playboy” who is at risk of losing millions of dollars of his inheritance because of his wild life-style.

It starts off a bit slow because the jokes were a bit hit-and-miss but don’t worry and sit tight because after about 15 minutes the jokes get better. It has the typical romance script, Arthur’s (Russel Brand) love interest will be quite obvious. His character however was very sweet, and if he is your cup of tea he also strips down to his underwear, and socks, at some point in the film.

Despite the obvious love interest there is one complication. Arthur has to marry Susan (Jennifer Garner) or lose his inheritance.

Hobson (Helen Mirren), his nanny, was a tough woman as a character, but was a great comedic pair with Arthur. Their antics had me and Bianca in stitches.

The movie features cameos from Evander Holyfield and “noted fashion photographer” Mr Nigel Barker.

For any car lovers out there the cars are gorgeous and include the bat-mobile and the Mystery Machine (the Scooby Doo car).

The movie is what you would expect of your typical light-hearted American comedy but nonetheless worth seeing if you like that sort of thing.

A FABulous movie.

Let us know what you think when you see it!
