Host, South Africa made up for their lackluster performance on opening day, when they  defeated Angola 2-0 in a match decided today .

Bafana Bafana’s Siyabonga Sangweni scored the first goal in the 33rd, tucking a powerful  volley into the far post.

The second goal was scored in the 62nd minute by second half subsitute Lehlohonolo Majoro who slotted the ball past the keeper from a tight angle just after four minutes after  coming on.

The Angolans fought back like a wounded lion, but the 2006 World Cup finalist lacked the quality that once saw them stop Nigeria from qualifying for football’s biggest fiesta.

Meanwhile, in a second round group A match, Nation Cup’s debutant, Cape Verde were denied a historic upset, after Morocco eqaulised through Youssef El-Arabi in the 78th minute to end the game 1-1 .

Cape Verde scored first in the 35th minute when Striker Platini coolly chipped the ball  over Moroccan goalkeeper Nadir Lamyaghri.

But the Cape Verde lads would find solace in the fact that they dominated the North Africans for a great part of the game.
