The A to Z of weddings – An expert guide to help you plan a dream of a day

“The head-dress and the veil are the ultimate finishing touch for a bride. Normally, all is okay, but when they put the veil on they know they’re getting married & THE BEWILDERED, SHOCKED AND ECSTATIC REACTION ALWAYS ENDS IN A BURST OF TEARS. “                                                                        Stephen Jones

Part 9 of our guide to planning your A to Z of wedding continues….

hair – whatever style you chose for your wedding day, have a hair rehearsal, take a snapshot of your gown and head-dress to your hairstylist.  Consider a classic chignon it stays neater, flatters your bone structure and neckline and perfect on a hot day to stay cool or try a half-up, half-down style.

headpiece – every woman’s crowning glory.

help – delegate, delegate, ask for help from family & married friends, who have being through planning their wedding. What do’s & don’ts and any pitfalls to avoid. If all else fails engage the service of a professional wedding planner (contact Bisi ira Bordley at [email protected] for more details)

host – if you are not following old tradition of a receiving line, you and your husband or wife should visit as many or all the tables , speak to guest and personally thank them.

hidden cost – most venues have minimum spend requirements. Read and re-read the small prints carefully. Always ask if prices include service charge (10-15%) & VAT (20%).

honeymoon – the honeymoon deserves special thought and planning and a job for the groom (extra bonus point from your bride later in your marriage if you get it right, trust me). Your honeymoon is likely to be the most extravagant holiday you’ll ever take together, so plan well.

hire – a wedding planner, your decision depends on several factors: the scale of your wedding, how much time you have to devote to the design and planning process, how capable you feel of managing the many small details involved and your budget

hotel – book your venue as soon as the decision is made on the date, style etc. The advantage of hosting your wedding at a hotel is the convenience, the set-up can be tailored to accommodate your needs and it really set the tone of your wedding. Consider your venue choice carefully based on your style is very important , example – choosing a traditional hotel if your wedding style is contemporary could be quite challenging.  Work with the colour & style of the venue.

hall – advantage of a hall is the flexibility (in terms of time, guest size, catering etc) and the blank canvas but it is what it is! The disadvantage of  hall is you would need to hire more or less everything you need for your event.

hats – A favourite millinery in the UK is Philip Treacy
