Petroleum tanker drivers, yesterday embarbarked on a protest by parking their trailers haphazardly on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogere Remo axis for more than 13 hours causing uneasy traffic. The road which is usually a busy one was a different sight yesterday. However, motorcycle riders took advantage of the opportunity in conveying stranded road users.
The reason for the demonstration was revealed by a source. A policeman had demanded for some money from one of the drivers and upon refusal, he shot his tyre and left the scene. The trailer was said to belong to Oando Petroleum Limited company.
Other trailer drivers showing their disapproval, parked randomly on the road, obstructing the free flow of traffic. Efforts by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps and Remo North Council area to get the drivers to change their minds proved abortive until Police officers agreed to replace the impaired tyre. This relieved the congestion that earlier halted the free usage of the road.
