FAB News: M.I and Joke Silva as UN Ambassadors

Phenomenal Nigerian actress, Joke Silva and contemporary rapper, M.I, on Tuesday, the 9th of October were appointed as goodwill ambassadors for the UN office of drugs and crime, UNODC during the launch of the ‘I am Priceless’ campaign.  While Joke Silva will be geared up for fighting human trafficking, M.I, specifically will be goodwill ambassador to stand against the smuggling of immigrants into the country.

The campaign will be executed in Lagos, Benue, Anambra, Cross River, Niger, Edo and FCT, Abuja and will last a period of 3 years. It is sponsored by the European Union (EU) and National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP) and is directed towards drawing attention to the many ills in society and UN resident coordinator, Angela Atangana, revealed that the selection of these powerful entertainment icons was timely and right as the entertainment industry is a powerful tool for addressing societal ills.

Joke Silva has starred in more than just a couple of Nollywood movies and in Nigerian TV series. Amongst her most striking movies are Amazing Grace (2006), 30 Days (2006), Letters to a Stranger (2007), White Waters (2007).

M.I‘ presence on the music scene became strong and evident in 2006 with the song, Crowd mentality. The Hip hop musician has bagged himself awards too numerous to mention, amongst which are MTV Africa Music Awards (2009).

The duo are definitely no wrong choices for the UN to pick and we congratulate them.
