Although this has been the singer’s biggest tune to hit the mainstream, Teedra is a musical stalwart, well known to lovers of neo-soul and mellow R’n’B for her beautifully written songs reminiscent of the slow jams of the 90s. An exemplary songwriter, she is responsible for writing the entirety of her 2004 album “Complex Simplicity” no mean fit, in a time of cookie-cutter popstars. Her sound is authentic, real, raw, and oh so easy to relate to, as shown with songs such as “Rescue Me”, a soulful musical twist on a girl’s quest to find her Prince Charming.
Most recently, however, she has returned with an unexpected but brilliant colloaboration with Nigerian-American Wale, a tuneful example of sassy soul and snappy rap that gets your head nodding and your fingers clicking.
She is performing at London’s Jazz Café on Friday the 28th of September, 2012, and Sunday 30th, and this is a rare opportunity to witness the beautiful songstress in all her splendour live, in an intimate gig this Autumn.
