Celebrities helped raise awareness for leukemia at the 5th Annual DKMS Linked Against Leukemia Gala last Thursday night (Apr 28) in New York City. DKMS, the world’s largest bone marrow donor center, raised a reported $2.5 million to further its fight against leukemia.
Solange Knowles, Keri Hilson, Pharrell Williams and the honoree Rihanna were only a handful of the celebrities that dazzled on the red carpet. The charity event, held at NYC’s famous Cipriani Wall Street restaurant, also featured a performance from R&B singer Mary J. Blige.
“Anyone can be affected by leukemia,” said Rihanna “It is the number one disease children in the U.S. die of and we can change that. I encourage people to become bone marrow donors with DKMS. If we have more donors, we can save more lives.”
The DKMS mission is to save lives by recruiting bone marrow donors for leukemia patients. DKMS is the largest bone marrow donor center in the world.
